Q: What are Surprise Staycations?
A: Surprise Staycations are our new and exciting package range for those customers that need a little extra excitement in their lives and want to get back to travelling and see more of beautiful New Zealand (from a closer range than their sofa) in 2021! These packages have all the bells and whistles of a fancy holiday, and none of the brain thumping planning. How it works, you ask? You purchase a package for a set price, either for yourself or as a gift for someone special, and we’ll put together a banging break that will include flights + accommodation that’s at least 4 stars (we know you’ve got high standards) to a secret destination somewhere in New Zealand over the dates of your choice*. While our Travel Experts plan your experience, we’ll be sure not to spoil the surprise, and at least 7 days before you depart we’ll let you know where you’re off to. All you’ll need to do is decide whether to pack your togs or a jumper, organise a pet sitter, and head to the airport! Obligatory departure lounge mimosas are not included in our package prices, but you can add these in yourself if you want to get into vacation-mode before you depart.
Q: Are Surprise Staycations available for solo travellers?
A: Unfortunately not.
Q: Are Surprise Staycations available for families?
A: At this stage Surprise Staycations are packages for 2 adults only so we are not able to accommodate families. If you have 1 adult and 1 child travelling together we can organise a package for them for the set package prices, but unfortunately we can’t do this for families of a larger size yet.
Q: Are Surprise Staycations available for groups?
A: At this stage Surprise Staycations are packages for 2 adults only. We can try to accommodate a group set up in pairs but cannot guarantee you can all go to the same destination.
Q: Can I depart from another city outside of Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin or Queenstown?
A: Not for now, at this stage Surprise Staycations are only available from these departure points. Tell our Travel Experts where you’re departing from and they may be able to put together a customised version for you, but prices may vary from our advertised set package prices.
Q: Can I buy a Surprise Staycation as a gift for someone else?
A: Yes, of course! The only catch is you would need to know the names of the travellers and dates of travel. If you don’t have this information just talk to your Travel Expert and they can issue a Travel Associates gift card which can later be redeem for any type of travel.
Q: Can I choose the destination for my Surprise Staycation?
A: That would take the fun out of it! No, Surprise Staycation destinations remain a Secret until 7 days before you travel and you could wake up anywhere in New Zealand! If there’s a particular destination that you’d like to be sent to, let our Travel Experts know and they will book your dream holiday to the destination of your choice, but a Surprise Staycation might not be the right fit for you (at least this time round!)
Q: What if there’s just ONE destination I want to request I don’t get sent to?
A: If there’s just one destination you don’t want to wake up in, you can request this when you book your package and we’ll do our best to ensure that we avoid it. Unfortunately this isn’t something that we’re able to guarantee though. If it’s very important to you, we recommend you instead book a destination of your choice with one of our Travel Experts. Surprise Staycations set package prices will not be honoured in this instance.
Q: Can I make sure I won’t be sent somewhere local? For example, I live in Auckland and I don’t want to be sent to Tauranga.
A: All of our Surprise Staycations include flights + accommodation (for the duration of stay that you’ve chosen) so regardless of where you’re departing from, we won’t be sending you to a destination that is your regular weekend spot within driving range. As fun as it would be, we don’t throw a dart at a map to determine where you’ll wake up. We have a dedicated team of Surprise Staycation Travel Experts behind the scenes that look after each and every booking to make sure it’s an amazing experience where you get value for money.
Q: When will I find out where I’m going?
A: The surprise will be revealed and we’ll tell you your secret destination (and send through your travel documents) at least 7 days before you leave. You’ll have time to figure out whether to pack your togs or a jumper and tie up any loose ends before you go.
Q: What dates can I travel for my Surprise Staycation?
A: Whenever you like between 4 Mar 2021 and 30 Nov 2021! There are a few exceptions including school holidays, public holiday weekends and event periods. Check our terms and conditions for the full list of exclusions.
Q: What if I want to travel over school holidays, a public holiday or an event period?
A: Surprise Staycations cannot be booked over these periods for the advertised set package prices. You can contact one of our Travel Experts to put together a customised package for you if you would still like to organise a package over these dates, we will endeavour to find you the best deal for those peak periods but the Surprise Staycations set package prices will not be honoured.
Q: Do I have to know my travel dates when I book my Surprise Staycation?
Q: It says these packages are a "from" price. Are prices likely to increase once I select my dates?
A: No. These packages are set prices and will be honoured for the purchase rate as long as your requested dates are within the rest of the terms and conditions.
Q: Can I use my Frequent Flyer points on a Surprise Staycation?
A: You cannot use Frequent Flyer points to purchase your Surprise Staycation, however you may be able to upgrade your flight (subject to availability) if it’s with an airline that you have a membership with. Let us know as soon as you can and we’ll see if we can make this happen!
Q: Can I use my Travel Associates Rewards on a Surprise Staycation?
A: Yes! Just let your Travel Expert know and make sure you pay with your Flight Centre Master Card
Q: I have a Travel Associates credit already on file, can I use this towards a Surprise Staycation?
A: Yes of course! If you have a Travel Associates credit on file just let us know and we can use this (or a portion of this amount) toward a Surprise Staycation. Unfortunately if your credit sits with a third party supplier (for example an Air New Zealand flight credit) we are not able to use it towards a Surprise Staycation.
Q: Is checked luggage included?
Q: I have some things that I’d like to request, can you guarantee these?
A: No. With Surprise Staycations the destinations and experience possibilities are endless (as long as they’re within NZ!) so because of this we can’t guarantee considerations. If you would like to request something specific like a certain hotel or experience type, our Travel Experts can put together your perfect holiday package for you, but a Surprise Staycation might not be the right fit. If you’d just like to request a preference, such as departing at a certain time of day, we can try and make this happen but it isn’t guaranteed - just let our Travel Experts know when you confirm your travel dates. With flight times in particular you need to be available at any time of day on the travel dates you’ve advised.
Q: I have received a Surprise Staycation as a gift, but I don’t want to book a secret trip. What can I do?
A: All bookings are non-refundable and non-changeable. Once the booking has been made, the Surprise Staycation will be subject to the Surprise Staycation terms and conditions.
Q: Can I change or cancel my Surprise Staycation after I have booked?
A: No. All bookings are non-refundable and non-changeable.
Q: What if I'm booked to a destination that gets closed due to COVID? Will I not find out until my destination is revealed 7 days out?
A: Our customers will not be sent to a destination with a lockdown, so this isn't something that you'll have to worry about. In the event that a customer is booked somewhere that is impacted by a lockdown, our dedicated team will rebook them to an alternative destination before the customer's had their secret destination revealed, so there is nothing that the customer will have to action on their end. The only instance where the customer will have to be notified about changes made to their booking/destination, is in the event that we are within 7 days of departure and our team are not able to find a last minute alternative for them that meets the standards that we are keeping for these packages. In this case we'll be sure to get in touch and discuss what we can do for them.
Q: What happens if I don’t like the secret destination?
A: Unfortunately it cannot be changed under any circumstances.
Q: What kind of Travel Insurance is included?
A: Surprise Staycations include a Cover-More YourCover Domestic Policy for the duration of your trip. Please note add-ons and/or amendments to the standard levels of cover included in the Cover-More YourCover Domestic Policy may incur additional costs. Please ask your Travel Expert for more information and policy wording.

Please note though that once the customer has confirmed their travel dates (whether it is 30 days out or earlier, including at the time of booking) they are not able to change them again, except in the instance above where a customer's trip has been impacted and travel is unable to be rebooked within that week. In the instance of your clients that are looking to book in May, we would encourage that they don't lock these dates in until they are sure that this is when they would like to travel. If they are unsure at this stage, the best option would be to book an open dated voucher now, the customer then has until 28 February 21 to advise their travel dates.

A Surprise Staycation package includes airport transfers, accommodation and associated components to a destination within New Zealand, the knowledge of which is unknown to the person(s) making the booking (‘purchaser’) and the person(s) travelling (‘traveller’) at the time of booking and payment. The purchaser shall be deemed to have accepted these terms and conditions on behalf of the traveller(s). All Surprise Staycation packages include flights, airport transfers, insurance and accommodation for 2 or 3 night packages (minimum 4-star standard) based on twin share for two adults travelling together (Packages for Pairs). Must book at least 30 days prior to travel dates. Seasonal surcharges & blackout dates may apply depending on date of travel. Not available over New Zealand school holidays, public holiday weekends or special events. If we are unable to confirm your availability outside of these periods, we will offer you a credit for another holiday, gift card or we can fully refund the amount. All Surprise Staycation packages must depart from Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin or Queenstown. The point of origin must match the point of return. The Surprise Staycation destination isn't changeable and is not refundable if you decide not to go ahead with the Surprise Staycation. Surprise Staycation’s cannot be cancelled and redeemed for cash.
